Life’s fascinating, init.
So many layers.
Even when the purpose is clear, the journey isn’t straightforward. Sometimes it’s really difficult.
Back in the day, I used to say, “But the Prophets did it,”
and people would reply, “Yeah, but we’re not Prophets.”
True.
But why limit ourselves?
Yes, they were favoured by God — but they were also human.
Why create such a divide just to justify our own shortcomings?
To remove accountability?
Over time, I’ve realised this:
we might never be perfect, but it’s definitely possible to be good — really good.
The temptations and the madness of this world make it hard, but not impossible.
You just need a rope to hold on to.
You need faith.
Guidance.
And above all, the intention — then constant striving.
Constant reflection. Constant renewal.
Or I could be wrong.
Just thinking out loud.
Either way — may our Lord guide us all along the way.
“The life of this world is nothing but play and amusement. The Home of the Hereafter is far better for those who are mindful of God. Why will you not understand?”
— Qur’an 6:32
Z: Dad, this teacher is pregnant AGAIN. Like in the middle of the school year. That's crazy. I have no idea why someone would do that..
Me: *creasing unable to talk*
Z: DO YOU?
Me: 💀💀💀
It’s funny how we define “common people” as those without degrees or formal education —
when in reality, the ones with them are often the most common.
Humble yourself.
It’s been 8 days since this.
I’ve been working non-stop.
Asked ChatGPT to summarise what I’ve actually done — and estimate the market value of my work.
£6,000 – £15,000+.
This is my new weekly rate.
Billing my future self — he better start saving.
InshaAllah.
“Mum, you know if you post something on your WhatsApp story, anyone who has your number can see it.”
“Nah they can’t.”
“They can.”
“Nah they can’t — I blocked 770 people last week.”
“Oh. Fair.”
Last weekend, I caught Z watching YouTube Shorts while eating lunch — one hand on his fork, the other endlessly swiping the screen.
Gave him a little lecture on TikTok, Shorts, and Reels — with practical examples of how they affect attention and memory.
Fast forward to this morning: he’s quietly playing Roblox while I’m scrolling Reels.
First video — “What are you watching?”
Second video — same question.
A couple more pass, and then he goes:
“Hey Dad, you’re a little scroller, aren’t you?!”
💀 Instantly shut my phone off and thanked him for keeping me in check.
I’ve been pretty ill the last 3–4 days.
Mostly flu-like symptoms, but enough to disrupt my routine and comfort.
The worst part was lying in bed and being unable to breathe — no matter which way I turned.
It made me appreciate the simplest things I usually take for granted.
Just got into bed, and it feels so good to breathe freely through my nose.
This is just a fraction of what I’ve been given.
I have so much.
Alhamdulillah for everything.
"He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, who has not taken a son and has no partner in sovereignty, and has created each thing and determined it with precise determination."
— [Qur'an 25:2]
Played Roblox for six sevvvvven hours straight last night with Z and his mates.
Not only does he now have bragging rights for the highest score in the game — I’m now fully up-to-date with Gen Alpha slang and confident he’s not playing with bellends.
Lesson:
1️⃣ Take interest in their interests.
Too many parents hand over an iPad, then ignore their kid when they try to talk about what they love — because we think it’s “trivial.”
If you pay attention and spend time with them now, maybe they’ll still want to spend time with you later.
2️⃣ Lead by example.
We all want our kids to be shooting stars while we sit on TikTok doing nothing.
Kids are copycats — they don’t do what you say; they do what you do.
Having children should be a reason to grow yourself.
And yeah, even Prophet Nuh’s (Noah’s) son went astray — but that’s no excuse to let society raise yours.
