One time, Saint Anthony, one of the greatest ascetics to ever live, asked God if there was anyone on earth who loved Him more. God said there was. And it was a simple shoemaker who lived in the city.

Saint Anthony was amazed someone in society could reach such spiritual heights. Saint Anthony had to meet this man. So, he left the desert and looked for him. Then, when he finally found him, he asked what he was doing that was so special.

The simple shoemaker said he wasn’t doing anything special at all. He said he just prayed all day as he watched the pagans walk by. He prayed they would all be saved and that only he would go to Hell on their behalf.
