@HippyMomPhD Wrestling with my kids is one of my absolute favorite things. I am trying to get it all in while I can, before they get too big!
Big believer that itโs a mental health boost for me and them.
What's the best book you've ever received as a gift?
Mine came as a Christmas gift in 2011 from my grandma.
Stephen King's "11/22/63" blew me away and kickstarted a Stephen King obsession.
For most students, not reading isn't a mechanical problem that standards, tests, or penalties can fix.
Not reading is a problem of motivation.
And motivation dies when student choice is taken away.
@burnttoast66 @AbsolutelyMindy@guyraz Same!
We took an hour every morning for what we called "Puzzles & Podcasts."
The kids did puzzles while listening to @wowintheworld
Might be the only part of the pandemic I look back fondly on!
Looking to make car rides with your kids more enjoyable?
Download the @wowintheworldpodcast, hosted by @guyraz & @AbsolutelyMindy.
Itโs a wholesome and wacky scientific game show. We listen every morning on the way to school.
Available wherever you get your podcasts!
It had been awhile since I read this book with my kids, but my 5 year old pulled it out today.
Forgot how much I love "The Digging-est Dog."
Parents: Which book do you just love reading with your kids?
@dpolehn The Lorax is one Seuss book we donโt have. Weโve watched the movie but I donโt think Iโve ever sat down and read it.
Thanks for motivating me to check it out!
@offgridteacher I just listened to a reading of "The Old Man and the Afternoon Cat" on YouTube, based on your recommendation. What a wonderful story!
Thank you for sharing!
There's 2 main things ChatGPT lacks:

If I'm a teacher, I'm explicitly crafting assignments that call on students to bring those two elements to the table.
@jackmoses0 Regret is fascinating. Iโm always framing things through the idea of regret
If I do this, will I regret it?
If I say yes/no to this, will I regret it?
If I eat this, will I regret it?
Will I regret spending time __________?
Like checking the other lane before merging.
@JB_Goldstein After a wrestling practice, my son will be sweaty and exhausted both physically and mentally.
On the way home, I sometimes ask him what he thinks other kids in his class are doing right now.
Him: โProbably playing video games. They couldnโt do what I just did.โ

@Homeschool_LLC Yes!
So important to make this time a conversation too.
When you stop to talk about a word or idea they don't know, they're learning.
And when they interrupt to point at or talk about a car or dog on the page, you learn about their interests.
Win-win.
This article is necessary reading for educators and parents alike.
Even though its focus is college campuses, Iโm seeing these โmental health breaksโ happen in early elementary.
But is this the path we should head down? A great look at a complex issue.
