When Audri finds herself with an aunt she hardly knows in a town where EVERYONE knows everyone else (and all their secrets), she’ll have to learn to trust others unless she wants her own secrets told. #KidPitLit#MG#Contemp
@sarareadauthor It comes back to characters again. If I can't find a reason to care about them, I usually DNF. Or if there is something within the story that makes me extremely uncomfortable--mostly, I'm uncomfortable with how topics might be handled than their presence in the story.
@sarareadauthor I need real characters who I care about in some way. I don't have to like them, but I need to be invested in their struggle for whatever reason. And I need to not have too many important characters to keep track of.
@RebeccaMinelga @sarareadauthor This is what started me writing as a kid. I kept feeling disappointed when the book was over--even if it did give closure. It's what I love now as an adult--imagining these characters still out there doing their thing. But if it's a good book, I'm always wishing for more.
@Couple_of_Bees @sarareadauthor I hear you. I'm probably not going to read it if it's that long unless I already know the author, or someone I trust has insisted that it's worth it.
@sarareadauthor Most of my favorite books are over 350 pages but under 500. Is that long? I also get really invested in series. There's something about a series in which we really see connections and growth--but it's hard to keep up the moment and interest if the series is too long.
@sarareadauthor I'm Meghan. I write when I can, and usually it's YA or MG contemporary. My favorite fall beverages are chai lattes and hot apple ciders. And this is the first #momswritersclub I've been able to catch in months!
@authorjesspayne Best part of back to school! I always get her one fun supply and then a fun supply for myself (middle school teacher). Last year it was a pretty desk mat. This year it’s brand new colored sharpies.
@authorjesspayne A6: Since the 5th grade. At least. I majored in Writing, but didn’t have the confidence to really do that. So I didn’t even think about it for years again until I was writing w/ my students and felt that pull and realized how much I missed it.
@KatiTuttle@authorjesspayne I usually do the same. They might not actually be part of the story, but it’s necessary for me to know who my characters are.
@authorjesspayne A5: I usually do some free writing or just writing scenes that come to me because I need to focus in on an idea. Then I move into character building and conflict.
@authorjesspayne A4: I have become more structured. I used to just start writing and hope everything turned out. It worked for short stories, but as I struggled with longer works, I realized I needed more of a set plan. I’ve tried various structures/methods. Right now I’m trying Story Genius.
First day of August and I read the back to school email with agendas for opening days. There are so many items and so many hyperlinks that I’m feeling super anxious. Give me back my summer!! #12daysleft#BacktoSchool2023#teacherlife
