I handed in my resignation today.
Within 20 minutes, my manager called me into a private room and asked: "What salary figure gets you to throw that letter in the trash right now?"
I told him a 25% raise and 3 weeks of remote work.
He didn't even blink. "Approved. HR will update your compensation package before end of day."
Think about what that actually means.
The budget to pay me what I was worth existed the entire time. They didn't lack the capital….. they just preferred keeping the difference as corporate profit margin until I forced their hand.
Companies don't pay you what you're worth. They pay you the absolute minimum amount required to keep you from walking out the front door.
Insurance Company: “Your annual premium is $7,500.”
You: “I’ve paid it for 19 years. That’s $142,500.”
Insurance Company: “Correct.”
You: “A storm destroyed my roof. I need to file a claim.”
Insurance Company: “Your claim has been denied due to pre-existing wear and tear.”
You: “The roof was only 6 years old.”
Insurance Company: “You’re welcome to appeal.”
You: “So what exactly did I pay $142,500 for?”
Insurance Company: “Continuous coverage.”
You didn’t buy peace of mind.
You paid for 19 years of protection, only to discover that when you finally needed it, the real fight was getting the company to pay.
How is this supposed to work?
I called to cancel my health insurance because I couldn't afford the premium anymore.
The rep asked why I wanted to cancel.
I told her I'm paying $685 a month for a family plan with a $9,000 deductible.
That's $8,220 a year before I've even paid for a single doctor's visit, prescription, or emergency room bill.
So if someone in my family gets seriously sick, I'm still looking at thousands of dollars in medical expenses on top of the premiums I've already been paying all year.
I asked her what exactly I'm supposed to do with a plan like that.
She explained that the policy was designed to help cover eligible medical expenses after I met my deductible.
I told her I understood how insurance works. What I don't understand is how a family can pay more than $8,000 a year for coverage and still be terrified of getting sick.
She didn't have an answer.
WE'VE CREATED A HEALTHCARE SYSTEM WHERE PEOPLE ARE PAYING THOUSANDS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM MEDICAL BILLS THEY STILL CAN'T AFFORD.
Thanks for the 'fix' Larry, but that's not the point of contention though.
The point is:
-You paid for the console/display/accessories
-You pay for the internet connectivity
-You pay for Game Pass/Online services
Yet, Xbox thinks changing the background of your Xbox dashboard under the guise of an "event background" is okay.
Sure, we agreed to it under the EULA, but where's the line? We already get fullscreen ads almost every other week, and now this.
What's next?
Turned on my XBOX this morning to have my background changed to COD
I’ve absolutely no interest in playing the game whatsoever and I get small ads on the dashboard and boot up ads asking to buy the game etc, heck my degree is in PR
But changing my background? Nah absolutely not
Hey @UPS not only did you lose my new iPhone for two days and then mysteriously find it at my local Gardena hub… it was delivered today and the box was empty . one of your workers stole it. This seems to be happening a lot.
