@Doug_Lemov I agree with this completely. However, I have struggled to find the cognitive science research supporting why it is so ineffective. If anyone can point me in the right direction towards a book or article, I would appreciate it.
@emilykmay Anyway, I feel like you encapsulated the entire situation with autism diagnoses, RFK, and neurodiversity in general that the nation is experiencing right now just perfectly. Thank you for writing this.
@emilykmay This article is really, really, really, good. I just sent an email to The NY Times saying as much. Not that they care about my opinion but they said they wanted feedback on the “diversity of letters” initiative (or whatever it’s called) so I gave them some.
@didactickatydid I drive in from Jersey every day and I’d happily pay twice the current toll to keep traffic as light as it has been since the congestion toll started.
@didactickatydid My school used those for two years. It was a disaster because the pouches can pretty easily be forced open. And yes, if they need to get the code for the two-factor thing, you’d need to open all their pouches and then shut them again. That will be a pain in the ass.
@heymrsbond Last year I made it a point to put myself down as both of my kids’ primary contact at the school. My wife is listed as the THIRD emergency contact. Regardless, they still called her first every single time.
@MarcusLuther6 I observed a teacher who had given her students choices of texts, a wide variety, then divided them into groups so they could run little book discussions themselves. One of the best lessons I have ever seen.
@rmeyer4488 They’re also supposed to work 8 extra hours a month and 8 extra days a year. There is some oversight, depending on where the school gets the money to fund the position, so it’s not entirely based on favoritism. The DOE has to approve the candidate every 2 years.
@rmeyer4488 My school has one. They’re supposed to be released from at least 1 teaching period so they can be in other teachers’ classrooms. Their classrooms are supposed to model classrooms, open to all teachers all the time.
@AGZimmerman I feel like they haven’t updated ATS because they don’t want to risk it not working, even for a couple of minutes. I can’t possibly imagine another reason.
@RAD_is_awesome I once suggested we create a committee to determine best practices for determining best practices and people didn’t think it was a joke.
