Conservative art differs from progressive art in that its aim is not to dismantle, but to orient itself toward a higher order. The problem is that this higher order is treated as perennial and already known, which is why conservative art can be so dull. Ennobling Portraiture is a kind of third way. Rather than assuming that the higher order is already known, it uses portraiture to discover what the higher order is and is becoming, with regard to technology, humanity, culture, nature.
The suspension of disbelief reinforces the ideological willingness of the public. This is, of course, the point made by Benjamin, Adorno, Althusser, Baudry, Metz, Debord, and Žižek.
KIRAC now invests in the suspension of belief, an even more powerful tool, and the future of art.
This is Elliot Page in The Odyssey.
They genuinely expect audiences to believe that this extremely petite female figure is a convincing male Greek warrior.
I'm sorry, but It is not remotely believable.
@TPostMillennial This is old in many ways, but it’s the best version of it. A very nice juxtaposition. Sometimes the best work of a movement appears when it has become overripe.
When Quentin Tarantino visited Viareggio, Italy in 1992 for the screening of "Reservoir Dogs" (1992) at the Noir in Festival, he had the opportunity to meet Michele Soavi, who was one of the filmmakers he admired. When Tarantino saw Soavi, he literally fell to his knees in adoration of the filmmaker.
"StageFright" (1987) which is about a cast & crew trapped inside a theater with a murderous psychopath while rehearsing for an upcoming play is one of Tarantino's favourite movies of all time.
("Quentin, such sweet memories", Vittoria Villa, Noirfest)
P.S: Happy 69th birthday, Michele Soavi!
“My idea is, as you see, that consciousness does not really belong to man’s individual existence but rather to his social or herd nature; that, as follows from this, it has developed subtly only insofar as this is required by social or herd utility. Consequently, given the best will in the world to understand ourselves as individually as possible, “to know ourselves,” each of us will always succeed in becoming conscious only of what is not individual but “average.” Our thoughts themselves are continually governed by the character of consciousness—by the “genius of the species” that commands it—and translated back into the perspective of the herd. Fundamentally, all our actions are altogether incomparably personal, unique, and infinitely individual; there is no doubt of that. But as soon as we translate them into consciousness they no longer seem to be.
This is the essence of phenomenalism and perspectivism as I understand them: Owing to the nature of animal consciousness, the world of which we can become conscious is only a surface- and sign-world, a world that is made common and meaner; whatever becomes conscious becomes by the same token shallow, thin, relatively stupid, general, sign, herd signal; all becoming conscious involves a great and thorough corruption, falsification, reduction to superficialities, and generalization. Ultimately, the growth of consciousness becomes a danger; and anyone who lives among the most conscious Europeans even knows that it is a disease.”
Perhaps the most presumptuous fantasy is to imagine yourself as Nietzsche, collapsing at the sight of the beaten horse. Except in the fantasy, the horse is a tech bro.
Maybe Elon is so Anglo that he cannot even perceive certain games as games. The moment a game requires both lying and cheating (which is what funding art is) it simply ceases to look like a game to him.

Elon is a Hayekian, a cousin of Marxism, sharing its Anglo faith in Destiny—“scientific history,” “Whig history,” “Divine Providence,” etc.
Hayekian destiny is “spontaneous order.” Don’t do things! Things do themselves, given the right framework. Which is X, freedom of speech
When Elon sees this shitty movie, he feels confirmed in his faith. We all like that feeling.
Look! Things are doing themselves! A movie made itself! Now let’s focus on the things that don’t make themselves. Like a Mars base. In space, the framework still needs to be built. Etc
