I agree that a simulator can never fully replace real flying. I am much more comfortable knowing pilots have been flying for real. I don't know anything about if current standards are too much or too little.
Thanks to the increased pilot experience requirements that were put in place over a decade ago, we have made flying the safest form of transportation in human history, with zero fatal airline crashes in this country since then. 1/6
