PROTECTING FOOTBALL, RESTORING NATIONAL PRIDE

Football occupies a special place in our national life. It brings Nigerians together across generations and communities, and our country has never lacked talent, passion or support for the game.

Yet, our results have too often fallen short of what Nigeria should expect.

I have therefore directed a comprehensive reform of Nigerian football following our repeated failures to qualify for major regional, continental and world tournaments.

The problems are structural, and our response must address them.

For the first time ever - Nigeria have qualified for the Olympics in the Beach Volleyball event, and will be representing Africa at the LA 2028 Olympics.

Esther Onyinye Mbah and Pamela Miyoum Bawa won the Beach Volleyball African title, defeating Morocco in straight sets 2-0 (21-18, 21-10) to book an early qualification to Los Angeles.
