🚨 Elijah Wood got the role of Frodo Baggins in one of the most unusual ways imaginable. He didn’t audition through a professional agent or casting director. He made a homemade “fan video” himself.

After hearing that Peter Jackson was searching for Frodo around the world, Wood decided to take a chance. He went into the woods with a friend and put together a makeshift Hobbit costume using clothes he had at home.

They filmed him performing Frodo’s lines and scenes from the books with an amateur camera, turning the whole thing into a homemade audition tape.

Wood then sent the VHS tape to Peter Jackson. Jackson had gone through thousands of professional actors’ audition tapes, but when he saw Wood’s homemade video, he was blown away by his performance and passion. He reportedly said, “I’ve found Frodo.”

And that homemade VHS tape helped land Elijah Wood the role that would define his career.
