Joy in trials
Have you ever heard that? My husband reminds me all the time to be joyful even when I’m in a lot of pain or when I’ve had a rough day. Why would I find joy in that?
When we feel miserable, unhappy, hopeless, we need to look to the cross & not to what is making us miserable. Because those things will only make us miserable.
•I’m miserably sick: I find joy in what Jesus done for me
•I’ve had a hard parenting day: I find joy in my salvation
•Things have not gone how I wanted them to: I find joy in that my God is gracious
My hope is that as my children grow older and are learning more about God through our daily Bible time, catechisms, family worship, church. They will have a better understand of the Gospel. It will already have been displayed to them.
Think of it how God handles our sins.
Our sin was paid for in a second on the cross by Christ’s blood.
God doesn’t continue to wave it in our faces that we’ve sinned and fallen short.
Discipline, not punishment.
What’s the difference?
Discipline is short and paid for in a second. Punishment is long lasting.
•Spanking vs timeout
•Spanking/talking through it vs taking a toy away
•Taking the time to explain vs the threat of them not getting what they want if they don’t obey
