Re:Build

Re:Build is America’s answer to Shenzhen: the multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing partner behind America’s most important new industrial products.

[Re:Build @ReBuildMFG]

America stopped building things. We’re fixing that.

[Ruben @rdominguezibar]

Re:Build CEO Miles Arnone (@ReBuildMFG) thinks American manufacturers put too much faith in robots.

"Bringing robots in might take a few percentage points off your total cost at a very high capital expense."

His alternative is Toyota's lean production system: pull a quarter or half a percent of cost out every single week by cutting the steps that add nothing to the product.

That kind of pragmatism is how Qasar Younis (@qasar) runs Applied Intuition, the $15 billion company behind the autonomy software carmakers and machine builders use.

@guilleflorvs and I sat down with Qasar to hear how he built it.

Beyond the Factory Floor: Re:Build Raises $2.1B to Build America’s Next Industrial Businesses

[Joshua Konkle @7SwanSwimming]

Agreed!

Fact: Re:Build announced $2.1B on Oct 27, led by General Catalyst and JPMorganChase's Strategic Investment Group, which oversees direct equity investing for its Security and Resiliency Initiative. Re:Build says its ecosystem employs 2,100+ people in the U.S. across 2.4M+ sq ft of manufacturing capacity.

The line that matters is from Re:Build's CEO letter: "Capital that matches the time constant of our customers' work is not a nicety; it is a precondition for success."

That is the Hamilton and Carey point. Capital patient enough to stay with the plant and the crew who run it.

Pattern to watch: whether the money lands as named plants and seated American workers, not only a holding company balance.

[New American Industrial Alliance @newindustrials]

NAIA member @ReBuildMFG has secured $2.1 billion in new funding to accelerate its mission of restoring America’s manufacturing capabilities.

This capital will fuel growth across critical sectors, including aerospace and defense, electrification, medical, energy and environment, and robotics and automation, while expanding its capacity to build hard technology and launch new industrial enterprises.

Bringing the total raised in its latest funding round past the $4 billion mark, these are precisely the investments needed to revitalize American manufacturing and build in America again.

"A pretty heavy hitter in the whole reindustrialize space.” Agreed.
Thanks to @tectonicdefense and @e_h_obrien for the deep dive on our $2.1B raise.

[Tectonic @tectonicdefense]

🏭 .@ReBuildMFG raised $2.1B in funding led by @generalcatalyst and JP Morgan’s Strategic Investment Group to expand its manufacturing capacity and "launch new industrial startups.” Worth noting: Defense accounts for about 40% of Re:Build’s business.

From the classroom to the factory floor, @MIT alumni are helping build the next era of American manufacturing. At @ReBuildMFG, MIT Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) alumni — including co-founders @jeffawilke, LGO ’93, and Miles Arnone, LGO ’93, along with Amanda Taplett Johnson, LGO ’07, and Lauren Heintz, LGO ’23 — bring deep expertise in manufacturing, operations, engineering, and management to complex industry challenges.

Their work to ensure the next generation of important products are made, at scale, in America aligns with the mission of the MIT Initiative for New Manufacturing (INM), an MIT-wide effort driving research, education, and collaborations to transform the future of manufacturing in the United States and beyond.

[Re:Build @ReBuildMFG]

Automation works best on a lean process, not instead of one.

Fresh off our $2.1B in new investment, our CEO Miles Arnone joined @tbpn to talk about why cutting waste comes before cutting labor.

[TBPN @tbpn]

Re:Build CEO Miles Arnone (@ReBuildMFG) argues manufacturers are putting too much faith in robotics to improve efficiency.

"The problem with robots is that they're attacking a pretty small part of the total production cost. It's largely the elimination of direct labor."

"Bringing robots in might take a few percentage points off your total cost at a very high capital expense."

"You're much better off trying to implement something like Toyota's lean production system to eliminate all the steps along the way that are wasteful, that don't add value to the product."

"In the U.S., we're very techno-centric and we like big step-change improvements. We want robots instead of grinding it out and every week just pulling a quarter or a half percent of the cost basis out by getting a little more efficient."

"The 'I'm going to put robots here, get rid of all my labor, and all of a sudden I've solved my problems' approach won't happen."

Rebuilding America’s industrial capacity takes alignment. Today @ReBuildMFG announced $2.1B in funding, co-led by @generalcatalyst and @jpmorgan's Security and Resiliency Initiative. When financial institutions, technologists and builders align around resilience, capital gets deployed, talent follows, and the work gets done.

American systems need to be sovereign and durable, and so do their physical foundations. If the US wants to hold its defense posture, lead in robotics, and turn its intelligence lead into hardware, it needs manufacturing infrastructure of its own.

Much of our work at GC is about revitalizing the industries and institutions this country runs on. It’s why we’re transforming Summa, a century-old health system in Akron, OH. Re:Build is doing the same for the manufacturers that defined American towns for generations, and for those towns with them.

We first invested in 2024. Proud to deepen our partnership with Miles Arnone, @jeffawilke, Will Barker and the whole Re:Build team

Five years ago, Miles Arnone, Will Barker and I started Re:Build because we believed deindustrialization was an economic failure and a national security risk. Today we announced $2.1B in new funding, led by General Catalyst and JPMorganChase’s Strategic Investment Group. Our mission is to ensure the next generation of important products are made, at scale, in America.

[The Financial Desk @TFDeskHQ]

The interesting name on this one isn't the VC. JPMorganChase's direct-investing arm is co-leading a bet that America can make things again, from drones to brand-new industrial startups.

[AUTONOMOUS @autonomousevent]

$2.1B to design & build hard tech in America again.

@ReBuildMFG raised the round today, co-led by @generalcatalyst & JPMorganChase. The company designs & manufactures products for other companies, from drones to medical devices, across 2.4M+ sq ft of US factories.

↳ Robotics & automation is one of 5 sectors the money will grow
↳ 2,100+ US employees, with tens of thousands of jobs projected over the next decade
↳ Founded in 2020 by Jeff Wilke, William Barker & CEO Miles Arnone

[General Catalyst @generalcatalyst]

The names that built American manufacturing are iconic. Slater, who brought the mill. Lowell, who integrated it. Carnegie, who scaled steel. Ford, who set the line in motion. Deming, who taught the world quality.

The forces of production that once built America are rebuilding America again. This is one of the most important economic and national security imperatives of our time.

General Catalyst has backed @ReBuildMFG since 2024, and today we are co-leading their $2.1B round alongside JPMorganChase’s Security and Resiliency Initiative.
