I remember the first time I heard Korn. Was like 8 years old on a soccer team. We had a boom box and everyone was playing random CD singles. Admittedly I think I had Backstreet Boys “Quit Playing Games” in there. Then this kid Tyler takes over and drops in Korn. Rocked my world

Calley Means says cigarette companies bought out the USDA and HHS to legally make chemical rich addicting food. “Cancer rates exploded”
“When do you think that began to change when you look at the data?”
“A lot goes to the 1990’s. In the 1980’s, the cigarette industry started consolidating the food industry. So by 1990, 50% of The US food supply was owned by Philip Morris or RJ Reynolds. They used their balance sheet as smoking rates were going down down to buy up all these food companies.
And they actually, did 2 things
- They used their scientists to make food more addictive, ultra processed food
- Then they directly co opted the USDA and HHS nutrition guidelines to do the food pyramid to recommend essentially carbs at the base of the pyramid
So ultra processed food consumption exploded. The surgeon general came out in 1986 and said, gotta stop smoking because of cancer rates. Since cigarette industry goes to food, cancer rates have just exploded.“
