#SorayaSantiago was a pioneering #transgender woman and activist in #PuertoRico who died on Sept. 22 at the age of 73. Wilfred Labiosa, the executive director of Waves Ahead and SAGE Puerto Rico, pays tribute to Soraya in this @WashBlade op-ed https://t.co/4mPxxk0vVU

Intersections and Believe Out Loud mourn the loss of Soraya Santiago who passed away today. Rest in peace, power and beauty, Soraya. We will be forever grateful.

“Soraya was a pioneer, our teacher, our beacon of light,” trans activist Ivana Fred said in a statement. “She opened the door for all us trans people and left us a legacy of unwavering spirit that is unmatched.” https://t.co/VhUJa8mZPg

I just got word that Soraya Santiago died. She was a titan when it came to trailblazing for transgender rights. Her personal fight started 40yrs ago. Imagine the transphobia and utter ignorance she ran up against then.
I met her this year in Puerto Rico, her beloved homeland.

[Michael K. Lāvers (He/Him) @mklavers81]

I had the immense privilege of meeting Soraya in September 2018 at a dinner in Old San Juan with @ReconstruyeQ. She was an incredibly charming person who broke barriers in #PuertoRico. Mi profundo pésame a sus seres queridos y a la comunidad LGBTQ en la isla.

[Pedro Julio Serrano @PedroJulio]

Soraya inmortal. Legendaria, visionaria, pionera. Hoy pasa a otro plano, pero su legado será eterno.

Rompió esquemas, vivió libre, luchó como nadie. Mucho antes de que cualquiera diera pasos para afirmar su identidad, Soraya digna se posicionaba en la historia.

People with HIV/AIDS in #PuertoRico remain vulnerable three years after #HurricaneMaria devastated the island. My @WashBlade colleague @valdes_yariel recently spoke with HIV/AIDS service providers and @RepJenniffer González about the issue https://t.co/XwtK6vtDg3 #ahfpartner

Today marks three years since #HurricaneMaria devastated #PuertoRico. The good people de la Isla del Encanto are in my thoughts today.
