Long read alert, but completely worth your time: Five years ago, the fantastic @GeoffLemonSport dug deep into the Ben Stokes Bristol incident, where he violently attacked two men outside Mbargo.
Media reports later emerged that Stokes supposedly 'came to to the aid' of two men who were supposedly on the receiving end of homophobic slurs.
Everyone went to town with "Stokes the saviour" narratives.
There were (and are) big inconsistencies in that. This piece lays it all out beautifully logically. Almost a Sherlockian lucidity in reconstructing events.
TLDR: Ben Stokes does not come out of it with any credit enhanced. (Rather the opposite).
That is why, when I see reports of Stokes being in yet another 'incident' and then suspiciously quick defences of the man - I am going to suspend belief till there is actual, concrete evidence. Till then, there is no way of knowing what is PR and what is the truth.

@nellbergcricket You’d think they’d have an exclusive enough place to celebrate where they wouldn’t get caught. But maybe that’s not the modern world. Doesn’t sound much of a privilege any more being famous.
If any boss in any job tried giving me a curfew for after work I’d have 2 words to say to them. If he was leathered or starting trouble that’s different but we don’t know that. I’m sure his team mates couldn’t care less either.
@nellbergcricket Could do with the details. For me the biggest concern is if they were smashed. I was out on Sunday and wouldn’t fancy a test match just yet.
@nellbergcricket Yes that’s the mistake I’d say. Having a childish curfew in place. We don’t really know what’s happened so it’s hard to judge as yet. Just being there isn’t enough for a standing down for me.
@_chef5_ I don’t understand what’s wrong with going out regardless of your age. Christ! Enjoy more going out now at 50 than some of the time when I was in my 20s. Weird takes all over the place. Jealousy of some kind is involved I suspect.
@ViewfromtheBpod My brother shouted to Livingstone, who was stood in front of us, to get a third man in place for that last ball. No need for a long on. 90mph bowler to a tail ender.
May ends with 72 bets at 21.75% ROI.
Happy with that and things feel stable with our knowledge of which markets are working for us.
Message tg @Redball8 for details.
