We'll be over there from now on sharing our collections and stories of Redbridge’s people, places and events. 🦋
@Juliefallon7 Hi Julie, we've double-checked our database and found that these photographs are indeed of the Hippodrome. The Super Cinema and surrounding cottages were also hit by a V2 bomb in February of the same year.
Have you seen this stone cherub’s head in our new displays at Redbridge Museum? It formed part of the grand interior of the Ilford Hippodrome designed by Frank Matcham, architect of several other famous London theatres. The Hippodrome was demolished by a V2 bomb #OnThisDay 1945.
Today was ‘A Big Day for Redbridge’ (and particularly Ilford) in 1987 – watch this film from our collection on @Film_London to find out why! 👇

We were pleased to receive Dr Rachel Lichtenstein on a visit to our Jewish Redbridge display at Redbridge Museum a few months ago. In this blog by @seethetreasures she writes about viewing the Newbury Park Synagogue archive, newspaper cuttings & more!
