Inspiring guest lecture from John Iley, Professor of Practice at UWTSD, 25 years’ experience in the motorsport industry and Director of Iley Design. Engineering students and staff were treated to a lecture on designing and building a fast racing car.

@UWTSD Motorsport Engineering students who are part of the Aerodynamics Working Group assessing impact to changes to bargeboard design on a Dallara Sprint car through @ANSYS CFD models this morning.
Busy day in the workshops, we have BSc students completing an assessed test in the simulator, HND students measuring suspension kinematics on our formula 4 rig, students building a sprint car, a drag bike team using the rolling roadand the MCR is being prepared for a track test
3D scanning a Formula 3 car for a UWTSD #Motorsport#Engineering Masters student’s #aerodynamic project. The car is kindly on loan from #SBD who are working closely on the project with the student, John Hughes & 3rd year student Ainsley Martin.
There are two potential geometries for pushrod on upright (POU) depending on the alignment of the pushrod mount to the axle line.
When steered it will either have an antiroll effect, one didelifts the other drops.
Or, in current F1 it will lower the car both sides.
