While Andy Burnham’s cabinet are joking about letting criminals out of prison early, Conservatives are listening to victims and will continue to fight this disgusting policy.
Rent controls would be an appalling policy. While they promise short-term relief, the economic evidence is clear: they have a deeply negative impact on both new housing construction and residential investment. The recent Scottish experience with them has been dire.

ONS Employment statistics released this morning show that the unemployment rate of 18–24-year-olds rose to 14.8% for the 3 months March to May.
The price of Labour is being paid for in the foregone opportunities of the young.
Employment red tape and above inflation rises in the state-set minimum wage are ‘cost of living’ issues as they feed directly into the price of almost everything - from food, transport, meals out to household bills.
So, if the government is serious about helping people into work and the cost of living, it is time to u-turn on some or all of the measures in the misguided (Un)Employment Rights Act which is piling on costs at the worst possible time.
