Many saints unfamiliar with the 1689 confession feel intimidated by its size: "It's too big to be a church's confession!"

Consider: Of the total word count in the confession, 40% (almost half) is focused on unfolding God's manifold blessings and benefits to believers in the covenant of grace.

That's ~2500 words on the glories of the gospel.

That's nearly twice as many words on the glory of the gospel than are found in the entire New Hampshire Confession (1853).

Is it big? Yes! But man, give me more gospel!

#OTD November 25, 1742:
David Brainerd, age 24, was approved as a missionary to the Native peoples of New England by the Scottish Society for the Propagating of Christian Knowledge (SPCK).

From 1743 to 1746, despite fragile health, he ministered among the Delaware (Lenape), with the most notable revival occurring at Crossweeksung, New Jersey.

Brainerd died of tuberculosis in 1747 at age 29 while staying in the home of Jonathan Edwards. His journals, published by Jonathan Edwards, inspired generations of missionaries.

About 14 years ago I attended a conference put on by a Free Will Baptist church in rural South Carolina. The speaker? Voddie Baucham. I have always wondered who at that church had heard of him. Thankful for Baucham's willingness to preach in small places as well as great ones.

IRBS is pleased to announce the formation of the Particular Baptist Theological Society, a new endeavor meant to encourage scholarship related to historic and current Particular Baptist doctrine and practice.
The society will meet for one day and will feature a plenary session alongside concurrent side sessions, each consisting of papers presented by scholars, students and ministers interested in the goals of the Society.
Soon we will call for paper proposals, on the theme of Chalcedonian Christology, to be considered for presentation at our first meeting, in May 2026.
