Shabana Mahmood’s interview with The Times is fantasy politics.

The Justice Secretary has given herself “six months” to solve the prisons crisis.

Her plan is to abolish short prison sentences and increase community punishments.

Here’s why it won’t work 👇🏻

• Her plan flies in the face of hard evidence. The latest statistics on reoffending show 28.0% of offenders commit another crime. Broader statistics show 75% of inmates reoffend within nine years of release. This costs society more than £18 billion a year.

• The “Texas-style good behaviour system”, releasing prisoners after one-third of their sentence, is a dangerous experiment with public safety. We saw crime statistics spike after Labour’s mass early release programme last year.

• Labour’s “football and pub banning orders” are inadequate responses to serious crime. These cosmetic punishments do nothing to deter criminals or protect victims.

• Labour’s deportation figures remain shockingly low. They are inadequate to the scale of foreign criminality in the UK. Without leaving the ECHR, Labour will not achieve its goals on this front.

The recall prison population is at a record-high. Labour are not tough on crime.

Vote Reform for real change.

🚨NEW: @ZiaYusufUK tells The Times that Reform’s deportation plans will be like Trump 2.0.

Zia’s interview is worth a read, as it provides clarity on the urgency and depth of Reform’s illegal immigration policy.

Key points 👇🏻

• Reform will “move at great speed” and be “more like Trump mark two than Trump mark one”.

• Like Trump, Reform will offer voluntary payments which will work out cheaper for the British taxpayer than forcible removal.

• Suggestion that foreign aid will be used as leverage to secure returns deals, noting that £151 million was given in foreign assistance to Afghanistan last year.

• Focus of UK Deportation Command would be on adult males.

Glad that Zia is still central to plans, as he is a true asset to Reform UK.

Wow. Graham Stringer MP has claimed it looks like Rayner is ‘manipulating the tax system’ to her own benefit.

Good on Graham. First the asylum hotels, now Rayner’s second home. This government is out of touch.

Labour’s former Justice Secretary under Tony Blair, Lord Falconer, says leaving the ECHR will be “so damaging”.

I’m lost for words. The only thing “so damaging” is allowing these young unvetted men in to our country.

The biggest problem? Lord Hermer.

Sources say Hermer has a ‘veto’ over government policy. An unelected bureaucrat running the country.

Hermer needs to go ASAP.
