“Believe it or not, anyone can set up in business as an electrician or electrical contractor in the UK and carry out work in people’s homes without having completed an electrical installation apprenticeship or having any relevant qualifications.
“At SELECT, we’ve been campaigning on the issue of protection of title for nearly 10 years and there is a great deal of cross-party support in the Scottish Parliament. Everyone we speak to is shocked that electricians aren’t regulated – if you’ll pardon the pun.”
SELECT would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes! Our office opening hours over the festive season are below and the last day for stationery orders is Monday 16 December 2024. 🎅🎄
We're continuing this week to shine a light on stories which show the dangers of electricity.
And not just in domestic settings as 269 electrical fires occurred in commercial properties (e.g. office buildings) are highlighted in this investigation...

Tragic story about a house fire due to electrical work
"Investigators found an extension lead had been wired into a socket in the room where the fire started, where a storage unit contained items including a games console and a TV, the inquest was told"

“While carrying out some fault finding, I found this at my customer’s property! Who needs those CPCs, or back boxes, for that matter?” 🔍

Thanks to Thomas Barlow and Scott Cavanagh for demonstrating their diverted neutral current fault board during our visit to @WestLoCollege today. It's an innovative way to get apprentices hands-on with the issue. A full report will appear in the next edition of cabletalk. #skills
