When should rejections be sent?
It’s not an exact science and no one size fits all. Seems to be lots of support for during office hours. If you email late at night, could you schedule your rejection emails from now on?
Check this out folks!! Should we all play #100Rejections2020 together???
Or how about we all start together in 2021? Naomi’s perspective is definitely refreshing... particularly the part about picking coloured pens. If stationery is your thing, this could be for you!!!
Ghosting is never cool!!!
If it will take you time to reply in detail, you can always let folks know. We recognise that people are busy but ghosting is dehumanising. We can all do better!
@RejectBetter Does your campaign have any scope to think about 'ghosting' too? When the rejection email NEVER comes or when a promoter you've been in detailed chats with about a tour / commission / event just stops replying..? A different etiquette issue but one of the most demoralising imo
Folks, please schedule your rejection emails to go out during daytime hours to give recipients time to process before trying to switch off. It’s a small gesture that makes a huge difference.
Are you involved in ensuring application processes support meaningful feedback for all? Have you worked within orgs to make this happen? We’d love to share your learning so others can follow your lead! You could blog, vlog or voicenote. Just drop us an email and we will share it!
@fronteirastl@NadPatel1 However, as capacity is often the first response to questioning why feedback is not offered we wanted to offer an way for people to increase their capacity whilst getting reasonable day rates to freelancers.
@fronteirastl@NadPatel1 Thanks so much for letting us know. Ethically we would never engage with a process that charges applicants for feedback of any form and will have this conversation up front with anyone who contacts us. Ideally, we hope that through sharing good practice nobody wants to pay us!!!
@bethwhatcanido Thank you, this seems to be a mobile viewing issue. We will get on it ASAP and see if we can sort it. Appreciate you taking the time to let us know 😁
Today we launch!!!
We are a collective of performance makers who believe that all applicants deserve meaningful feedback as standard and you are invited to get involved.

@The_EmilyB Thanks for being so candid. We really hope not to have to sell anything but realise that capacity is often listed as an issue. Therefore, we wanted to offer a solution that sees money reaching freelancers. If people want to use the offer, we’ll be sure to spread the work!
‘time equals money and can therefore be exactly the thing emerging artists don’t have much of... this problem is rarely publicly discussed – beyond bursts of frustration on Twitter – as those who need the opportunities don’t want to be seen to be critical or bitter’
Great read!
As Reject Better launches its campaign for better feedback for job applicants, here's Holly Williams' piece from last year on whether time-consuming application processes in theatre are holding back new talent
