A harsh wind blows from the European Commission!

Puffins, Kittiwakes, and many sea mammals outwait their hunger as the ban on sandeel fishing in UK and Scottish waters is still being challenged by the Commission.
To “settle” the dispute, an arbitration tribunal has been opened.

Together with our Partners and 34 UK and EU-based NGOs we issued a statement asking the European Commission to withdraw from this starvation process.

Sandeels are not fished for human consumption but to feed livestock and aquaculture!

As @ArielBrunner says, “The EU is on the wrong side of both science and history. To continue fishing sandeels threatens the collapse of other fish stocks and directly endangers the future of small-scale fishers for the benefit of a very specific industry. Commissioner @CostasKadis’ litmus test awaits him as soon as he takes over the Commission. Will he be the ocean champion he claims to be? If he is, he must support the ban of sandeel fishing.”
