To new grad students: Get ready to make mistakes. Thousands. Interpersonal, scientific, small, large. Thousands.
If you already knew it, you would not need the degree. The real test is what you do after you mess up.
My @temple_cj colleague and friend Jen Wood is a spectacular researcher, and one of the smartest scholars and thinkers I’ve ever known. The 2021 Law Enforcement & Public Health conference will be great.
It was an absolute honor to present @2020Iop and to be the first speaker of the day!! It was totally worth working through the time difference (3:15am for me) @MatthewSwarney @Alicemepark @ProfRArmitage @HuddersfieldUni @WeLoveResearch @StacyWilsonCla1@DaveZackrias @Hiltz1881
“...we can make more progress thinking analytically & experimentally about crime &its control than we can by exchanging slogans, rehearsing our ideology, or exaggerating the extent to which human nature or government institutions can be changed according to plan.” James Q. Wilson
“The common theme of the essays that make up this book is that the proper design of public policies requires a clear and sober understanding of the nature of man and, in particular, of the extent to which that nature can be changed by plan.” ~ Thinking About Crime James Q. Wilson
As violence, particularly gun crime, spikes in many communities- to include mine, we must look to evidence-based practices that follow strategies suggested by those like @Abt_Thomas- focused, balanced/fair, and measured. Anything less is a disservice to our community.
I finally got my twitter handle back @DrReneeMitchell so I will be back over there! Twitter thought I was a bot. They even apologized for shutting me off!

And apparently I can only follow so many people at a time until I have more followers! This is ridiculous. #twittersucks If they would just respond to all my emails and read the fact I got my phone stolen and I didn’t have access to my phone number and it really was me tweeting!
#Northeastern PhD students Emma Fridel & Stuti Kokkalera successfully defended their dissertations this week! 🎉 Next, both have accepted assistant professorships following graduation – Dr. Fridel will join @FSUCriminology & Dr. Kokkalera will join @SHSUCJ. Congratulations!
2 weeks ago I started showering at work after every shift in effort to lower the risk of me bringing Covid home.
I've gotta tell you, it's refreshing to arrive home clean, and it's helps to start the decompression from the day.
I may keep this up, even on the other side!
Stay home if you can. And with drivers, delivery people, and restaurants, we’ll help #MoveWhatMatters:
10 million free rides and deliveries of food for frontline healthcare workers, seniors, and people in need.
