On this day in 1823, Joseph Smith prayed for forgiveness and guidance. That night he was visited by the angel Moroni, who revealed Joseph’s calling to restore the gospel of Christ to the world.

“Advocates for absolute religious freedom should yield to the reality that in a nation with citizens of many different religious beliefs or disbeliefs, the government must sometimes limit the right of some to act upon some of their beliefs when it is necessary to protect the health, safety, and welfare of all.”
—President Dallin H. Oaks, “Faith, Freedom, and the Common Good,” National Cathedral, Washington, D.C.
President Dallin H. Oaks delivered a landmark address on religious freedom Wednesday at Washington National Cathedral, pointing to the United States Constitution as a key tool for peacemaking and finding common ground.
“The Constitution compels a divided people to build coalitions to allow them to act together,” said President @OaksDallinH, who has spent seven decades studying the Constitution as a scholar, jurist and religious leader. “‘Compels’ is a strong word, but it is exactly what the Constitution does. It puts what we now call ‘peacemaking’ at the heart of the Constitution’s process for achieving freedom and unity, and fairness for all.”
His remarks are the first by a Church President at Washington National Cathedral, a “house of prayer for all people,” and came on the eve of the country’s Constitution Day. The event, titled “Faith, Freedom and the Common Good,” explored the relationship between religious faith and American democracy. The gathering was part of the cathedral’s “A Better Way” series, which encourages Americans to find common ground and move forward together in polarized times.
President Oaks said he was participating in the effort to help “embody the love of God in public life,” offering “hope for unity and a moral framework to move forward in a divided world.”

“It is possible to obey and seek to improve our nation’s laws and also to love our adversaries. While not easy, what makes it possible is the help of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
"He gave this command to love, and He promised His help as we seek to obey it.”
—President Dallin H. Oaks, “Faith, Freedom, and the Common Good,” National Cathedral, Washington, D.C.

An extraordinary map shows the extent that births have fallen around the world.
France, Germany, Italy and the UK peaked in births more than 100 years ago.
East Asia, Russia and much of Eastern Europe are now 75% below their peaks in births!
Thanks @ErminiaDark
I watched the community I love lose everything, an inch at a time, to a cultural enemy welcomed inside the gate.
I will not stand by and watch that happen to the state my grandchildren will inherit. https://t.co/KkRQNRlbpB

“Why is this important? What am I here to tell you? If the state can force you to accept men as women, they can force you to accept anything. Freedom of speech, belief & association are the bedrock of a free society but they are in direct conflict with transgender ideology.”
There are 27 weeks left in the year.
The Senate is scheduled to be in recess for 16 of them.

To me, Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is something of a sacred place.
Historically and spiritually, the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the establishment of the Constitution of the United States led the way for religious liberty as the first freedom granted by the First Amendment.
How grateful we are to celebrate what the Lord has done through wise men and women to bring about the privileges many now enjoy throughout the world.
“The full power of the gospel of Jesus Christ is contained in the Book of Mormon. Period.”
—President Russell M. Nelson, “The Book of Mormon: What Would Your Life Be Like without It?,” October 2017 general conference
In my eyes the greatest defense of the Book of Mormon ever delivered behind a pulpit—
President Jeffrey R. Holland declared a powerful testimony of the Book of Mormon that every truth seeker needs to hear.
“For 179 years this book has been examined and attacked, denied and deconstructed, targeted and torn apart like perhaps no other book in modern religious history—perhaps like no other book in any religious history. And still it stands.”
44 years ago, I decided I would quit debating and find out once and for all if what my friends, teammates, and two young men in white shirts and ties had told me about the @Ch_JesusChrist was true.
There is a promise given at the very end of the Book of Mormon:
And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.”
Moroni 10:4–5.
Our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, keeps every promise. I read, prayed, asked, and listened.
He answered.
That decision will bless my family and me for an Eternity.

Children in my church—The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—know this song, “I Will Walk With Jesus”
Pay attention to the words
If this isn’t emblematic of Christian faith, I don’t know what is
