Proudly serving Washington State's 9th District. Democratic leader of the House Armed Services Committee.
@HASCDemocrats, @NewDemCoalition, @USProgressives.
Great news for Washington's Ninth District. Today, the House of Representatives passed a package that will deliver $6,316,000 in community project funds back to our community in WA-09.
These Community Project Funding investments reflect what our communities are asking for — cleaner water, safer neighborhoods, and more opportunities for young people to succeed. I will continue fighting to ensure federal resources are directed where they can make the greatest local impact.
The Supreme Court is giving yet another green light to this cruel administration. This ruling will allow the Trump administration to deport thousands of people who have been living and working legally in the United States for years. I condemn this decision and firmly support Temporary Protected Status for Haiti and Syria. https://t.co/aSh1IQ5mro
Last week, I joined my colleagues in the Washington delegation in urging the USDA and Forest Service to keep two Washington state research labs open. These two centers focus on wildfire smoke forecasting and forest management, and without their work, our communities would be put at serious risk with the impending wildfire season.
Thank you to the @IAM_Union for having me at their National Legislative Conference today in Washington, D.C. The work that machinists and aerospace workers is instrumental to the Ninth District and I will continue to support the work you do.
We need to bring down the cost of housing. Petty, partisan politics shouldn’t get in the way of one of the first bipartisan accomplishments of this Congress.
The bipartisan housing bill is done. We passed it. The Road to 21st Century Housing Act represents a strong consensus to limit institutional investors from buying up single-family homes, making homeownership more accessible for many across this country.
But today Trump said he's withholding his signature anyway—unless Congress passes voter suppression. The President is yet again using relief for families as leverage to force voting restrictions.
That's not how this should work. The bill's already passed Congress. It's time the President stops sabotaging bipartisan efforts to help American families to push his partisan, discriminatory policy agenda.

It’s been four years since the Supreme Court ripped away women’s right to choose – turning back the clock on reproductive health care and abortion access. Everyone should have autonomy over their own body, and I will continue to work to overturn Dobbs and reaffirm the constitutional right to abortion for women across our nation.
Four years.
Every day since #Dobbs has only reminded us of the urgency & the stakes of our fight.
Today, we honor those harmed and lost because politicians stood between them & their health care. And we vow to keep fighting for a more just tomorrow.

"Today’s Senate vote to pass the House Resolution to prevent Donald Trump from continuing his war of choice with Iran is yet another blindingly clear message to the president that he must end his catastrophic war of choice now.
"Trump has failed to achieve any of his stated objectives—namely ending Iran’s nuclear ambitions, removing its highly enriched uranium, halting its work with terrorist proxies, and eliminating its ability to project power in the region. Instead, his administration is negotiating hundreds of billions of dollars in a settlement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which was open before Trump launched his ill-conceived war, and asking for a nearly $80 billion supplemental to cover the costs of his war in an effort to try to get us back to where we were before he started this conflict nearly four months ago.
"And because of Trump’s ham-fisted attempt to force Iran to capitulate to his will, the U.S. must continue with those negotiations and end his failure of a war before even graver damage is inflicted on U.S. troops, innocent civilians, and the worldwide economy."

One of the jobs I am most proud of as a member of Congress is nominating brave, smart Washingtonians to our service academies. I had the chance to meet with last year’s academy nominees to hear about the great work they’re doing to support our country’s military. Great work to Adrian, Elan, Ethan, Grace and Chirag and best of luck to you their fellow nominees Nathaniel, Joseph, Christopher, and Ty.
Apprenticeships have grown by more than 70% in the past decade, providing a proven pathway to well-paying careers without the cost of a four-year degree. I’ve been a longtime champion of workforce development and wraparound services that help individuals with training, resources, and support needed to enter and advance in high-demand fields. What did all of the lives lost and disruption to the globe economy accomplish? We should not have started the war with Iran just to be back to where we were before the conflict started.
Since the G.I. Bill was passed 82 years ago, 15 million men and women in the armed forces have had the opportunity to seek higher education, rather than unemployment following their military service. I look forward to seeing the many opportunities that the G.I. Bill brings to servicemembers for years to come.
"This really shows why the war ... was a colossal mistake. ... Now Iran knows they have the Strait of Hormuz as a major leverage point, and their regime is every little bit as hard line, and their nuclear weapons program is not going away... . But let's get to a better place. We need to stop this war. So, I hope the negotiations can lead to that."

At a time when families are struggling to afford groceries, House Republicans are
advancing legislation that fails to fully fund WIC benefits, cuts investments in safe drinking water, and supports a war with Iran that is driving up the cost of fertilizer needed to grow our food. Democrats are working to lower costs, strengthen food security, and protect
working families.
