@the_transit_guy Biggest bait and switch in Austin history. Project Connect is a disaster. We need to find better alternatives. Robotaxis, Boring tunnels, Joby. The technology is here!
Population +6.7%. City Hall revenue +110%.
That’s why Austin feels unaffordable.
Vote YES on Prop I Nov. 3 — independent audits so we can see where the money went.
Fellow Austinites, there is no clearer reason why so many feel that Austin has become unaffordable than this. In the last 10 years, our population has grown 6.7%, yet the amount of money pouring into Austin city government has increased over 110%! Vote YES on Prop ℹ on Nov. 3rd.
Project Connect looks like the White Sox building Comiskey Park in 1991: spending top dollar on a legacy model right before it becomes obsolete.
Austin locks in the most expensive light rail per mile in US history just as autonomous fleets and tunneling tech mature.
@YIMBYLAND As someone who has lived in both Chicago and New York, this would be one of the worst financial decisions Austin could make. It risks saddling the city with outdated infrastructure just as autonomous vehicles are poised to become the mass transit solution of the future.
@JackCraver Provide free Uber rides, robotaxis, and Waymos to anyone below a certain income level. You could deliver hundreds of thousands of rides each year for a fraction of the cost. Several cities are already doing this is some fashion.

Craver does a good job touching on the corruption at the heart of Project Connect.
The head of the Project keeps giving himself pay raises that far exceed what other top city officials make
They tried to lease a $32M office space until stopped
More will come out.
Actual theft is happening

Austin politicians who support Project Connect Light Rail and its unaffordable Perpetual Property tax (21% of the General Fund city tax when the City can’t balance its budget for basic services) envision themselves as Visionaries who will be honored in the future. They’re dead wrong.
They will be known as Historic Dumbasses and Grifter Enablers especially @KirkPWatson and his servant @MayorAdler. We keep throwing them life rafts they keep tossing away.
