I’m horrified by the stabbing of an Asian American man and Orthodox Jewish man today that occurred in broad daylight.

As we await the outcome of the NYPD investigation as a possible hate crime and mental health diagnosis, we must acknowledge that it took place against the backdrop of rising antisemitism and anti-Asian hate.

The epidemic of hate in our city cannot be ignored. No New Yorker should ever feel unsafe because of who they are, what they look like, or what religion they practice.

As the top Democrat responsible for funding public safety programs, I am committed to securing resources for federal and local law enforcement and community organizations to address hate and protect our communities.

Wildfires don’t have a nationality. They are a collective action problem worsened by climate change and leaders who would rather create problems than solve them.

If Republicans were serious about stopping insider trading in Congress, they’d put forth a real ban that forces members and their families to divest—not push a loophole-filled bill that still allows stock trading and includes voter ID provisions that only make it harder for Americans to vote.

This isn’t reform—it’s political theater. I’ve joined an effort to force a vote on legislation that actually bans stock trading. It’s time they join us and bring it to the floor.

I don’t want another shutdown. Democrats don’t want another shutdown.

However, we shouldn’t be passing a CR, that Democrats weren’t even involved in negotiating, without trying to pass our regular government funding bills. Nor should we be passing legislation that gives ICE more taxpayer dollars without any guardrails while they continue to terrorize our communities.

Hey NYC: a Tornado Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service. It’s in effect until at least 9 PM tonight for all five boroughs. Let's talk about what that means and how to stay safe! 👇

What's a tornado? 🌪️

It's a violently spinning column of air stretching from a thunderstorm down to the ground, capable of intense winds and flying debris. Tornadoes are genuinely rare in NYC, but today the atmospheric ingredients are there for one to form, which is why we've got a watch. Worth taking seriously.

Watch vs. Warning:

🔹 A Watch (what we have now) means conditions are favorable for tornadoes. Time to prepare!
🔹 A Warning means one's been spotted or picked up on radar. Act immediately.

⛈️ Multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms are expected across NYC today into Wednesday, with the strongest storms and greatest severe threat between 6 and 11 p.m. tonight.

🌧️ Expect 1 to 1.75 inches of rain, locally 2 to 3.5 inches where storms repeat, with localized flash flooding possible. It may affect parts of the city differently and unevenly.

💨 Damaging wind gusts of 40 to 70 mph are the main threat, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

⚠️ Every storm is dangerous no matter its size or severity. When you hear thunder, head inside a sturdy building. Never stay in or re-enter a flooded basement, and do not drive, walk, or swim through floodwaters, you do not know the depth or debris underneath or whether it is electrified. ⛈️ Heads up, New York: thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected Tuesday into Wednesday, and localized flash flooding is possible.

Rain may start as early as Tuesday morning, but the main event is Tuesday evening. Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are most likely between 4 PM and 11 PM, with showers lingering overnight before clearing out by early Wednesday morning.

Most of the city will see 1 to 1.5 inches of rain, but spots that get hit with repeated downpours could see 2.5 to 3.5 inches. That's enough to cause flash flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, plus ponding on roads and underpasses. The strongest storms could also bring wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph, capable of causing damage, downing tree limbs, and even some hail.

If you live in a basement or a home that floods frequently, know your exits and be ready to move to a higher floor when heavy rain begins. Never stay in or re-enter a flooded basement.

Never drive, walk, or swim through floodwaters. Turn Around, Don't Drown. If you hear thunder, go inside and stay away from windows. And bring in or tie down anything loose outside: trash cans, furniture, umbrellas.
