Today, we commemorate the life of our dear friend, colleague, and civil rights champion John Lewis.

From Selma, where he was brutally beaten while fighting to expand Black voter registration, to his more than thirty-three years of dedicated, purposeful service in the House, Congressman Lewis stood as a symbol of progress, of courage, and of inspiration to all. It was the honor of a lifetime to work with him on the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the Equality Act, and our advocacy to end the scourge of gun violence.

We will carry his legacy forward by continuing the tireless fight for civil rights.
