Yesterday 4th grade student Ellington Wall had a visit from @RepScottBrewer NC House Representative. You might remember Ellington from our NC Wax museum post who was Representative Brewer! @StanlySchools@SuperatSCS@stanlynewspress

I enjoyed hosting the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce at the #ncga this week! It was a pleasure to speak with them about pending legislation and economic development in rural NC.
I was honored to walk in the Richmond Co. #VeteransDay Parade with the names of mine and Karen’s dad on the sides of the car, both of whom served in the Korean War. I am forever grateful to those in uniform who have protected our freedom and values. Thank you to all who served.
It was an honor last night to nominate Terry Callicutt to receive the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award at the Timberwolves game. Callicutt has served #NC for over 32 years, as a Srgt with NCDPS & as coach for hundreds of kids in Montgomery County. Thanks for your service, coach!
The PCS of HB377 doesn't include raises for non-certified NC school staff. Sen. Brown said there will probably be another bill to fund those salary increases. #nced#ncpol#ncga
Richmond County is open for business! And we’re doing it in responsible ways by building out our critical infrastructure and developing lasting partnerships. Thanks to @rcoecodev, @NCDEQ & all the local municipalities for hosting this important meeting.
Please join us tonight for a Tele-Town Hall about Medicaid Expansion and affordable healthcare for North Carolinians. At 7PM, call into 888-410-3427! If you have anything you’d like us to mention, let me know!
Don't miss this 11am meeting at the NCGA. NC took bold steps after WWII to establish a network of rural hospitals. They are now all at risk of closing. Expanding Medicaid is the best, maybe the only way, to protect them.
"Today’s vote is wrong, but Governor Cooper’s veto can still be sustained by the State Senate. The fight for affordable health care and public schools continues. The people of this great state deserve it, and I’m doing my part to make it happen for the people of North Carolina."
"On a day typically reserved for unity, here in NC we saw one of the most divisive acts of political trickery in our entire state’s history. Good governance is built on trust – but today we saw legislative leaders sacrifice their values in search of a cheap, political victory."
"The process used to pass the budget was abhorrent, but its ramifications will be felt throughout our state for years to come. H966 shortchanges our school teachers, our community college staff and our state employee retirees, and it fails to close the healthcare coverage gap."
This is one big leap for democracy in our state. One important note from the ruling is that while the court dictates that surrounding districts must change because of "extreme partisan gerrymander[s]", House District 66 shall not be redrawn. #ncga#ncpol
NEW: 3 North Carolina judges have decided that the state's districts — that were redrawn in 2017 — are gerrymandered to the point of being unconstitutional. Lawmakers have until Sept. 18 to redistrict the state.

It seems like just yesterday I was walking my own daughters to school on their first day. I hope all the students, parents, teachers and school staff have a great first week of classes and a wonderful school year!
@DestinHall Rep. Scott Brewer, a retired chief district court judge, now speaking in opposition. Says this bill should amend NCGS 15A instead of creating new law #ncpol#ncga
👏 Ending the school-to-prison pipeline has been a big priority of mine, as Chief District Court Judge, and in the #ncga. I applaud the efforts of @JusticeCBeasley and @NC_Governor to revise juvenile disciplinary standards, and help our kids live healthy, productive lives.
Today I was excited to announce a statewide School Justice Partnership initiative with @NC_Governor. Together, we can keep kids in the classroom working toward a bright and promising future. #nced Learn more at https://t.co/DXYltoxwk9
The founders of our government intended for the legislative and executive branches to negotiate on important legislation. They didn't create our government for one-party rule. It's time for House & Senate leadership to start talking with @NC_Governor about moving forward.
