Thousands of stroke patients in the UK are dying or being left with lifelong disability because the NHS does not have enough stroke specialists to deliver time-critical treatment. With stroke affecting around 100,000 people each year, delays in expert assessment, clot-busting drugs and thrombectomy mean that an estimated 10–20% of patients are left avoidably dead or more disabled than they should be. This is not a failure of medicine or technology, but a workforce crisis — and without urgent investment in specialist stroke teams, preventable harm will continue to rise. @TheStrokeAssoc
