One thing to keep in mind: we don’t close roads or divert traffic if we don’t have to. We understand that closing a road like Geyer is a major inconvenience to many people, but your safety and the safety of our members sometimes outweighs convenience.
This afternoon crews handled a major natural gas leak in the are of Mt Troy Rd and Geyer Rd. One apartment building was evacuated as we monitored the gas readings inside. Thanks to our automatic aid companies and People’s Gas for the professional work.
Yesterday we received 3 sets of new gear. This is part of a PPE upgrade through the PA Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant program. These 3 sets of gear cost $12k! The next part of our upgrade includes replacing fire helmets and fire boots. Total cost over $20k.
It’s important to have conversations with the stakeholders in our community. Most residents don’t understand how the Volunteer Fire system works. We spent a couple hours explaining the how and why we do certain things to ensure the proper safety systems are in place.
