We are calling on @EU_Commission to deliver a full ban on fur farming and the placing of farmed fur products on the EU market, the only outcome consistent with the evidence and public opinion.

This week, Respect for Animals joined campaign partners in Brussels to demand EU action on #FurFreeEurope.
With 1.5 million verified signatures behind the ECI, the message was clear: no weak standards that keep fur farms open. The Commission must act.
Respect for Animals told the crowd that despite the Commission held “behind closed doors” workshops with fur industry lobbyists, warning these appeared to be shaping low standards designed to keep fur farms operating in the EU, without an equivalent process for a ban.
We instigated this complaint because we are deeply concerned how, at the very moment the @EU_Commission is deciding what happens next with its response due by March 2026, the fur industry has been granted behind-closed-doors access, while the ECI’s organisers were ignored.
Today we can confirm that we have filed a complaint to the European Ombudsman over the European Commission’s handling of the Fur Free Europe ECI.

This is huge!
The Federation of Veterinarians of Europe, together with the Federation of Companion Animal Veterinary Associations and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association, has issued a joint statement calling for a global phase-out of fur farming.

“The failure to act after SCAHAW was a moral & political failure,” said Mark Glover, Campaigns Director @Respect4Animals. “If the @EU_Commission ignores EFSA, it will be knowingly endorse the continued cruelty inflicted on millions of animals. This cannot happen a second time.”
A new scientific opinion published by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) confirms what we and other campaigners have been saying for decades, namely that the systems of fur farming in the EU totally fail animal welfare needs.

This isn’t the first time EU authorities have reached such a conclusion. The 2001 SCAHAW report exposed the failure of fur farms to meet basic animal welfare needs. Now 24 years on, after years of fur industry lobbying, rebranding and hollow welfare schemes, nothing has changed.
🚨 A new investigation by @GAIABrussels and @Respect4Animals reveals that luxury giant LVMH has invested a large amount of money to support the killing of wild animals for their #fur.😡

A new undercover investigation released today by @GAIABrussels records horror on European fur farms.
Animals suffering in tiny cages, handled cruelly, then electrocuted.
All just for their fur.
This cruelty is not necessary. It’s time for a full fur sales ban in Britain.

The fur trade's days are numbered - millions of animals spared from suffering and death.
In 2023, global fur production plummeted by nearly 40%, following a decade-long downward spiral that saw the industry shrink by a staggering 85%.

Contrary to what the fur industry claims, new data shows that fur bans in Europe are not moving the practice to China.
Not only is fur farming inherently cruel to animals, it's also economically unviable #makefurhistory
A milestone for animal protection as the parliament in Romania votes to ban fur farming!
Last year we joined
@FurFreeAlliance colleagues in Bucharest to support this campaign. Now over 100,000 mink and chinchillas will no longer be cruelly bred and slaughtered for their fur.
Historic win for animals! The Romanian Parliament has voted to ban fur farming 🎉
This morning the groundbreaking legislation passed with an overwhelming majority vote.
Huge congratulations to our member @HSIEurope /Romania for their hard fought campaign for a #FurFreeRomania
Good news from the UK, where a bill to ban #furfarming has been introduced in Parliament 👏🦊
Well done to our friends at @Respect4Animals for their hard work.
Now it's up to the @EU_Commission to follow suit and create a #FurFreeEurope. Citizens & animals are waiting.
