I opened a PR with a proposal for adding metadata to inscriptions. It is intentionally simple, supporting only plain-text key-value pairs. Plain-text key-value pairs covers the vast majority of use-cases, avoids adding a dependency on a serialization format like JSON, and is human readable and easy to display without a schema.
