Yet another ordinary law-abiding, hard-working contractor, being screwed by HMRC's Retrospective Taxes and 2019 Loan Charge. Today no sleep. Tomorrow no home.
@gregwrightYP@loanchargeAPPG There can’t ever be too much scrutiny on the #loancharge, those who introduced it, or those who continue to support it as tax policy.
Well done for keeping it in the spotlight and thank you Greg. ❤️
🚨BREAKING NEWS: Huge new FOI revelation in the #LoanChargeScandal raised by @gregsmith_uk in #TreasuryQuestions exposing #HMRC’s 15% settlement deal with large companies in 2015, as reported by Ray McCann to Lord Morse in 2019. All the while ruthlessly persecuting contractors.
I don’t know how all those senior (high salaried) #HMRC officials (past & present) involved in the #LoanChargeScandal sleep at night.
They do know that their deliberate & unfair ‘punishment strategy’ (to quote Ray McCann) pushed people to kill themselves.
An inquiry is needed

HMRC have let off so many furlough fraudsters yet continue to persecute tax payers who took out these schemes in good faith which were within the law at the time and the government passed retrospective laws when pushed by HMRC

Sham #McCannReview unwittingly undermined by 'Reviewer' revealing hopes to "persuade" HMRC & discussing findings with HMRC/HMT prior to publication.
MP's, #LoanChargeScandal will NOT be resolved by Review into settlement terms!

The loan charge came from a system I used whilst contracting in the financial services through accountants "Carnegie Knox" who assured me it was legitimate and a perfectly compliant system to use

@LC_Impact@LCAG_2019@loanchargeAPPG Call It what you will. It is actually akin to a mugging, by thinly legalised extortion via a weaponised retro-tax process. How HMRC looks after it's less well-heeled customers...
#LoanChargeScandal
...it caused high stress, worry, and many sleepless nights
I currently have a liability hanging over me that is life changing and has been dangling for 7 years without any indication if it is going to be a concussion or a decapitation

I was shown a letter from HMRC stating that the scheme was legal...So I was persuaded by two "experts" that I was doing the right thing. Of course as soon as HMRC invented a new law, these people weren't seen for dust

The loan charge has been devastating for my finances. I don't own my own house, I rent, and I've been forced to move acccomadation 3 times in the last 3 years. I have a 5 year old son...
