Jan Hus.
A martyr burned at the stake in 1415.
Read any description of him and you'll hear his sermons were fiery and powerful.
But for 611 years his sermons have not been translated into English!
What the Catholic Church wished to accomplish in silencing Jan Hus has been true for the English speaking world and his preaching.
Until today!
We at Revived Thoughts are excited, for the first time in history, to introduce you to a sermon by Jan Hus. On the latest episode of our podcast you can hear it read and be one of the first in the English speaking world! We also provide the link for you to read it.
The first sermon we chose was on the topic of forgiveness. A problem for those 6 centuries ago and still a problem for us today.
Learn the story of a man who did not flinch an inch under persecution. He died but the movement he started didn't end with him.
And hear the sermon they never wanted you to hear.
Having children has made me a lot more pro-choice.
Taking care of children is hard. Part of the payoff is imagining them living full lives as adults.
I don’t know how anyone could find the motivation to take care of them if they knew that wasn’t possible. That’s why only religious people don’t abort in these situations.
I hear this all the time:
"The church needs to talk about sex more."
What they mean is we need to talk about healthy sex more often.
But I actually think the church talks about sex a lot.
We live in a sex obsessed culture. Pornography, media, music, education, everything in society today is constantly talking or making much of sex. Any institution that doesn't constantly point to sex will seem strange to this world.
But we are not of this world.
Church, focus on promoting Christ. Not on catering to the ideas of a sex addicted world.
Talk about it the Biblical amount. Mention it where it is appropriate. Preach on it when it comes up in the text. Give advice and counsel where necessary. Encourage the proper understanding of it among the young. Defend God's vision and definition of it against the culture.
But don't be surprised when a world that makes sex a defining feature of identity and celebrates that for an entire month, plus endless holidays on it the rest of the year, doesn't think your local church talks about it enough.

I just can't think of any specific examples where the church hasn't been pretty clear. Like, we all know there are bad churches, but the overall message from the church for generations has been save it until marriage and it's between a man and woman to enjoy. I am not sure what other message needed to happen?
