These international media make it sound like the Philippines is the first domino to fall.

Yes, a national energy emergency was declared; but it’s not because the Philippines is running out of fuel. The issue is the price, which the Philippines has no control over.

Since PH relies heavily on imported fuel, it makes sense to get ahead of possible disruptions.

Right now, gas stations are open, no rationing, jeepney prices are still the same, price freeze on certain items. and anyone can still fill their tank.

So this is not a “we’re running out of fuel” situation. It’s more of a precautionary move to stay in control if things escalate.
