The tragedy is that This carbon/rich enterprise is being championed by a man who strove to bring business leaders round to the idea that Climate Change should be taken seriously. Electoral politics has won out. Maybe he has not noticed the heat effect on his world Cup
If this is the response of governments to catastrophic climate breakdown, what hope is there - seriously?
Insanity, pure and simple

As a journalist for more than four decades, I have to admit that the Media is too powerful and exerts a malign influence in the way we are governed . That includes the Bbc which follows the agenda. Let’s hope Burnham is able to face them down sometimes.
Every single major broadcast news bulletin, BBC, ITV, Sky GBN, I could go on, has led with Andy Burnham's key messages - the decision not to take questions totally vindicated as millions have seen his message and not the usual Punch and Judy show about "who will be Chancellor..." Really important learnings.
My top tip to stay cool. Drape an old light coloured sheet down the OUTSIDE of your South and West facing windows then jam the window to hold the cloth in place. Make it double if it’s a thin sheet. A bit of a faff. but cheap and incredibly effective
Great analysis of new PM’s climate in-tray. But don’t forget the UK position of international leadership. If we won’t leave our tiny residue of fossil fuel in the ground what Hope is there for others more dependent on oil & gas https://t.co/qeNl0ZOFXK via @businessgreen
If true that @andyburnham not taking media questions after speech today then good move. Speeches matter and when important should speak for themselves. A problem with Keir S communications was that he would make a speech, then take Qs and the broadcast journalists in particular would make it more about them and their “take” than him. If and when he becomes PM Burnham will be answerable to Parliament, not the showbiz style media coverage of politics. The blah factory will go into overdrive today with journalists interviewing each other about how they ought to be allowed to ask Qs. The speech itself is more important than anything they say before during or after. Setting the agenda vital from the off.

At risk of sounding arrogant, the #FOTW contains urgent info about where our climate, our world, and our society are headed, which everyone needs to hear
But it is getting very little traction😞

Progress indeed
After months of dominating the agenda with Reforms anti-Net Zero campaign, why have broadcasters not held Tice to account Over the heat wave driven by Climate Change that they want to ignore .
Nuclear power is the most expensive way to make electricity - the slowest, most expensive and dangerous option we have. Always over budget and out of time - can’t say I’m unhappy to see the EA enforce nature protection rather than step aside for this man made disaster. We don’t need nuclear energy to achieve energy independence and 100% green on the grid. A delay to Hinkley matters very little in my view - the chances of it ever landing in 2030 were always slim.

New Anthropocene paper. Earth still operates in "Holocene logic", buffering heat imbalance. Anthropocene = Pressure. But, BAU, reaching 3°C in 2100 & we get "stuck" in a Hothouse trajectory for 1000 years. Anthropocene risks turning into a state. No Good.

The speed with which our once stable climate is falling apart is just astonishing, and very, very, scary
Maybe not that surprising when you consider that our world is heating faster than at any time across the 4.6 billion year geological record

Ik schreef dit vanuit een gevangeniscel. Vijf jaar — de zwaarste straf voor burgerlijke ongehoorzaamheid in de moderne Britse geschiedenis. Als de waarheid een misdaad is, wat zegt dat over het systeem?

EVERY weather station, both rural & urban, in Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, set a new May temperature record yesterday.
Unprecedented.
For the climate sceptics out there, the game is up. Go and bore someone else with your nonsense.
@RogerHallamCS21 Roger Hallam is right in complaining about the failure of those who lead us to account for extreme outcomes. It is the most extraordinary gamble with the fate of the only Planet we have. And no one wants to talk about it.
