📢 The government has responded to our report on #AI as a medical device. The government has accepted 11 of the report’s recommendations and accepted the remaining five in principle.
Getting regulation right ensures patients can get early access to high quality technologies, confident that they have been demonstrated to be effective, safe and equitable and are continuing to be monitored.
The RHC congratulates Lord David Willetts on being appointed Chair of the Regulatory Innovation Office (RIO). We look forward to working together with Lord Willetts to progress the regulatory reform needed to unlock growth opportunities from technologies and innovation.
Congratulations to Lord David Willetts on being appointed as Chair of the Regulatory Innovation Office (RIO).
Lord Willetts brings a wealth of experience in science policy, regulation & leadership and has served on @UKRI_News & @spacegovuk boards, supporting UK science & tech.

The RHC are delighted to see our report on regulating #quantum technology applications has been translated and published by researchers from Osaka University's @ELSI_center. It’s fantastic to see the RHC’s work shape regulatory conversations both nationally and internationally.
We @ELSI_center translated the @RHC_UK Regulatory Horizons Council's excellent report "Regulating Quantum Technology Applications" into Japanese and published it as ELSI NOTE No. 48, with a translator's commentary.

We are reassured that the phased approach outlined by the response will ensure that regulatory bodies and policy makers become quantum-ready, and proportionate regulations will play an enabling role in supporting the development of quantum technologies down the track.💪
🚀 The UK takes a #quantum leap ahead in supporting quantum technologies!
💡The government has responded to our report on regulating quantum technology applications, which you can read here: https://t.co/5wUvJLh8uQ
🧵Read on for a high-level summary of why this important:
We are pleased the government has accepted 11 of our recommendations and accepted the remaining 3 in principle. The government agrees with the importance of intervening at the right stage of development – not calling for quantum-specific regulations or regulator.
📢 The RHC is actively working on projects in engineering biology, the next instalment of our "Closing the Gap" series, and preparing our fourth tranche of work. We will also seek government responses to our past reports.
Stay tuned for impactful updates!
🚀 The RHC welcomes the establishment of the Regulatory Innovation Office!
We’ll continue providing impartial, expert advice on regulatory reform to support technological innovation. Excited to collaborate with the Office on future projects!
We want to bring new technology to the public faster.
The Regulatory Innovation Office will:
✔Update regulation to drive innovation
✔Speed up approvals to bring new products to market
✔Ensure regulatory bodies work together
That's more innovation, jobs & a stronger economy.
Enlightening discussions at the RHC's "Plugging the Gaps in #Space" event! We explored space futures, public engagement, sustainable exploration, and more. Huge thanks to all the brilliant speakers, attendees and @TheD_Group for hosting.🚀
