Prior to his time with Tampa Bay and Long Beach State, Longoria was an All-Conference and All-State shortstop at Rio Hondo. He hit .430 with 8 HRs and had 64 RBI as a freshman.

After 16 MLB seasons, former Dirty Bird Evan Longoria has officially announced his retirement. He will sign a one day contract with the Tampa Bay Rays to officially retire with the team on June 7.

In 2008, Longoria became the first Roadrunner under Head Coach Mike Salazar to reach the Major Leagues. He went on to win the 2008 AL RoY Award as well as becoming a 3 time All-Star, a 3 time Gold Glove winner, and leading the Rays to their first WS appearance in team history.
