Sherifat Umar, a Lagos State University undergraduate, is popularly known as “Rheefah The Poet” on stage and “Rheefah The Creative Hijabi” in the media space �� identities that reflect the different dimensions of her voice, creativity, and purpose.

Through spoken word and storytelling, she uses poetry as a tool to inspire, educate, and address real-life issues, while her creative identity reflects her faith, confidence, and authenticity in the media space.

Her leadership journey is just as remarkable. She served as the immediate past Speaker of the Lagos State Children’s Parliament, where she led over 100 impactful projects focused on children’s welfare, advocacy, and awareness across Lagos State. She also presided over parliamentary sittings and served as a one-day Commissioner at the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development.

Beyond this, she was the Chartered President of the Rotaract Club of Queensland, building the club from the ground up and leading initiatives across health, education, youth empowerment, and community development.

Currently, she serves as the Public Relations Officer of the LASU Debate Society, where she manages publicity, design, and digital presence, using storytelling and strategic communication to shape the society’s image.

Her excellence has earned her several recognitions, including:
• Best Graduating Student, ABC Speaking Academy (2023)
• Public Speaker of the Year, NASELS LASU (2023)
• LASU Debate Society Member of the Year (2024)
• Winner, Eko’s Got Talent 3.0
• 1st Place, Speak My Truth Poetry Contest (2022)

As a proud Muslimah, she sees her faith as the foundation of her ambition, guiding her journey and shaping her purpose.
