Facts Are Sacred!
I will begin by repeating what some of us have already said: I am disappointed that Ghana did not reach the final of this World Cup. However, Team Ghana leaves this tournament with its head held high and with every reason to be proud of what the players and technical team, led by Coach Carlos Queiroz, have achieved.
The Black Stars have succeeded in restoring pride and belief among Ghanaians. Before the tournament began, Ghana was the lowest-ranked team in a group that included Panama, Croatia, and England. Colombia, one of the tournament's strongest contenders, was ranked 11th in the world.
Ghana entered the competition under difficult circumstances. The team was without key players such as Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Salisu, and Mohammed Kudus, while important members of the squad, including Ernest Nuamah and Abdul Mumin, were only just returning from long-term injuries.
Despite these challenges, the Black Stars delivered commendable performances throughout the campaign. The team impressed in the preparatory match against Wales in Cardiff before opening its World Cup journey with a significant victory over 37th-ranked Panama. This was followed by another disciplined and intelligent performance against fourth-ranked England. By the time Ghana faced sixth-ranked Croatia—finalists and third-place finishers in the previous two World Cups—the Black Stars had already secured qualification to the knockout stage.
Ghana finished the group stage with four points and emerged as the third-best third-placed team in the tournament. This achievement earned the Black Stars a place in the 2nd Round for the first time in 16 years.
Prior to this remarkable campaign, Ghana had advanced beyond the group stage only twice in its history. This current generation of players, together with their technical team, has once again demonstrated that Ghana can compete at the highest level of world football.
Their performances have already yielded tangible rewards. After the group-stage matches, Ghana climbed eight places in the FIFA World Rankings, moving from 73rd to 65th. Considering where the team stood before the tournament and the challenges it faced, this represents a significant statement of progress.
Most importantly, this campaign should give all Ghanaians renewed hope and confidence in the future of the national team. The lessons learned, the experience gained, and the belief restored will be invaluable as Ghana continues its journey towards sustained success on the world stage.
The Black Stars may not have reached the final, but they have reignited the spirit of a nation and reminded us all of what is possible when determination, discipline, and belief come together.
Lest I forget, Cape Verde are on the streets celebrating even without wining a SINGLE game at the World Cup (two different worlds - same game called football)
May God Continue to Bless Our Homeland Ghana .
