@JoyceCarolOates From the author of the bible to overselling Hamlet's role in creating our minds he was part charlatan huckster. He did not appreciate women writers. And his view of male writers arm wrestling for "greatness" is silly. But I loved the lectures gathered as "Ruin the Sacred Truth."
@ejdickson I messed with @MissAuroraSnow by telling her she was in there. But I left out it was just a magazine uploaded with her name in it. Then she messed with me right back letting me know Bob Dylan is in there, too. Just as innocent; apparently someone bought someone Dylan tickets.
My book, One Bad Mother: In Praise of Psycho Housewives, Momfluencers, and Other Women We Love to Hate, is on sale now (link in bio), and I can't wait for the trad wives and the MAGA people to find out and SCREAM at me about it!!!!! boy will they hate it!
This is one of the best writers around. I have been following her work for years-- through four or five publications--and I can not wait to read this. .....
My book One Bad Mother, which features a 20 page treatise on the origin of porn MILFs, was just named one of the Best Books of 2026 by the @NewYorker, a magazine I have read since I was 13. Gooped and gagged doesn’t even begin to cut it
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Bob Weir, founding member of the Grateful Dead. We were honored to witness his brilliance at Sphere, where each night he brought joy and connection to the countless fans. Thank you for the music, the memories and the magic.
@ThatEricAlper Hard to get past "A woman like you should be at home / That's where you belong ." Oh, and the song he worries about us provoking space aliens: "Oh, man has invented his doom/First step was touching the moon." Not touching "Neighborhood Bully." But "Jokerman" is perfect!
At 10 I lived for The Ramones. I ignored Kiss. As an adult I interviewed Gene Simmons a few times and found him loathsome. And, for work I saw a Kiss "live" mime show in 1999, perfect as part of the bogus iBash. Bt if SVZ says the band has something. I will give another listen.
RIP Ace Frehley. Just as KISS has been underrated as a band all these years, so was Ace underrated as a guitar player. The original band had that magical undefinable chemistry that all great bands have, and his writing also contributed to their success. Our love and condolences go out to his family.
The anniversary of Dylan's Nobel Prize for Literature. It was the best choice made in my lifetime. It isn't like that prize has a good record: Joyce, Borges, Cynthia Ozick never won it, but George Bernard Shaw did. I suspect that prize did more for the Nobel than Dylan
I wonder if Neil Young and Frank Zappa have anything else in common beyond the annoying habit of saying "Howdy Folks" at the start of the concert; I mean, beyond the obvious, that I spend too much time listening to both their concert recordings.
Loving the Deluxe Edition of the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Never listened to the album before. I never liked Genesis. Closest I come are solo albums that have to also be titled "Peter Gabriel." But if you can ignore the words you'll avoid laughing over some really great music.
A lawyer technically has a doctorate in jurisprudence. But lawyers never ask to be called Doctor; they know better than anyone it is illegal for them to write a prescription. And, if they needed to refute a scientific study for a case, their witness is a scientist not a lawyer.
Seeing this movie in a long gone theatre next to a long gone deli where I worked a busboy was probably one of the most important moments in my life. That concert sequence opened worlds. I also loved Arkush's Get Crazy with Lou Reed as a Dylan-ish rock star named Auden.
46 years ago, director Allan Arkush released Rock 'n' Roll High School. Centered around the Ramones, the teen flick featured original music by the band and marked their acting debut.
Journalism = isolation. Last time I paid the cost was $5 and a can a food for the homeless: Dead Kennedys or Black Flag. Then for decades every concert and event is free for "work." Suddenly back seats to see even someone like Robin Trower are almost $200, WTF.
Please let us make a better world by building a huge public monument to Doug Sahm. I never got to see him live but I did see him in person standing next to Grant Hart and me at another concert at First Avenue. Grant recognized him. Back then I did not even know the name.
