• The first phase, focused on the maternity ward, is already operational, increasing capacity from 36 to 140 beds.
• The second phase, covering the rest of the hospital, is projected to cost Rwf10 billion and will include facilities such as intensive care units.
• The Ministry of Health plans to upgrade Ngarama into a university teaching hospital, allowing it to provide specialised care while training more health professionals.
• The hospital serves the local community and more than 15,000 refugees in Nyabiheke Camp.
• Meanwhile, health system digitisation has reached 90%, with digital records and services helping reduce patient registration and consultation times.
