@AmericanVsGov Also, the numbered roads don’t indicate the distance to the state line necessarily. They indicate distance to the county line, which in their case, also happens to be the state line.

@AmericanVsGov … new roads were constructed in between the original roads. Hence, a road 1/2 way between F and G would be F 1/2. Interestingly, you know it’s between F and G, because of the original layout. It could not be between E and F, that street would be E 1/2.
