The moment of clarity is not comfortable.

You have been a spectator in the imperial capital, fed division, kept entertained, given enough comfort to prevent revolt and enough anxiety to prevent solidarity.

The culture war was your circus.

The debt was your chain.

The election was your ritual of consent, performed every four years to produce the feeling of agency without the substance of it.

Seeing this clearly does not feel like liberation.

It feels, at first, like grief.

Because it means the story you were told, that you lived in a functioning republic, that your vote was sovereign, that the system was imperfect but responsive, that working within it was meaningful, was more comfortable than the truth.

The truth is not comfortable.

The truth is that the hands operating the foreign stage and the domestic stage are the same hands.

That the regime change exported abroad and the culture war consumed at home are products of the same factory.

You were not a citizen deliberating.

You were an audience. Managed. Contained. Useful.

Seeing it clearly is the beginning.

But only the beginning.

What you do with the clarity is the question that actually matters.

And that question has no comfortable answer.
