Snow falling today will raise the avalanche danger. Wind-loading at most elevations will make thick drifts that could break and avalanche. Additionally, there is a buried weak layer of faceted, sugary snow that could slide. Get the forecast: https://t.co/I8wR19RqHj
We rode around at Lionhead today and were encouraged by how the snowpack is handling non-stop snow... BUT, we know that there are weak layers buried and there is A LOT of recent weight from all the new snow adding stress to the system and we AVOIDED steep wind-loaded slopes
We are sad to report that today, two snowmobilers were caught and killed in an avalanche on Scotch Bonnet Mountain to the north of Cooke City. The avalanche broke 5’ deep and approximately 300’ wide on a southeast-facing slope.

A legend has passed. Bobby Unser was part of the AMSOIL family for decades. His record as a driver speaks for itself, but we’ll remember him most for being a friend to AMSOIL and our founder, Al Amatuzio.
RIP, Bobby.

Surface hoar growing on top of the Lion Head snow pack. Cool looking, but a sure sign of instability to be expected after the next big storm. @GallatinNF
A skier triggered this avalanche today (12/2/20) at Bridger Bowl. The skier who reported the slide was skinning below and had to run to narrowly avoid being hit (or buried). Be extra cautious of steep terrain, and be on the lookout for other people above and below you.
