As someone not really active with 5th gen, I can say CORTIS is pretty popular. Whenever I open TikTok, there’s always some random person using/playing their songs. I know their songs even though I’ve never intentionally listened to them, because I keep hearing it everywhere.
@dianrongyu08@makeulemonade are you trying to say all genz should act the same? Also people have debunked the claims so maybe you should read a bit too before commenting

@saygex17@makeulemonade Yes 'here we go' with the fake maturity now 💀 dragged CORTIS acting like champions of Black culture, but the second the tables turn and your own faves get exposed, you suddenly want to pack it up? Standard.
@dianrongyu08@makeulemonade "15-year-olds act better” isn’t an argument.. better at WHAT? You still haven’t named what CORTIS actually did besides speak and act like Gen Z.
@dianrongyu08@yunsailor@makeulemonade "babying them” = refusing to pretend teenagers using mainstream Gen Z internet culture is some calculated racial performance 😭 you can hold them accountable without inventing an intent that isn’t there.
@dianrongyu08@makeulemonade they’re 17–20, they know what they’re doing” doing WHAT 😭 using slang that’s literally part of global Gen Z internet culture now? TikTok, Twitch, rap, memes etc. have blurred the line between AAVE and general internet vernacular.
@makeulemonade an aespa stan lecturing everyone about racism when giselle was literally filmed mouthing an actual racial slur 😭 cortis haven’t done anything remotely comparable they’re teenagers using internet slang, hip-hop-influenced fashion + speech.
@makeulemonade For Gen Z, the line between AAVE and “internet slang” has blurred. Many international teens pick up phrases from TikTok, Twitch, YouTube, and hip-hop without knowing their origins. It can reflect internet culture, not an intent to imitate Black people.
