GPs reading this today will be shouting “where is the focus on adequate funding to secure enough GPs to provide more access?”
Strategy and data can only pave the way if matched with investment! Patients and GPs deserve better !
NI GPs yesterday backed a no confidence vote in both the Health Minister Mike Nesbitt and his department. It follows Mr Nesbitt imposing a funding package on GPs in May, even though they had rejected it. "He needs these people", @deirdreheenan tells @MarkCarruthers7
Thread: Medical advice I wish someone had given me at 30 years old:
At 30, I thought I was building a career.
I was actually dismantling a person.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before the white coat, the night shifts, and the slow unmaking of a life:
Staff told me they just kept their head down hoping they would not be picked on..a leaked copy of the cardiology inspection report lays bare bullying allegations & claims of a lack of trust among staff. This is a shocking read. https://t.co/LOJuFbBDAC
⚠️🗣GP HITS OUT: 'There’s a narrative that GPs are lazy and play golf in the afternoon. It’s not true. The wheels are falling off.'
❗️Belfast GP Dr Michael McKenna warns Northern Ireland risks losing the next generation of GPs due to mounting pressure on services.
🎤He sat down with Chief Reporter @jamesgould23.
⁉️He says doctors are now “looking at what action they can take” to secure more funding.
✅️It comes after Health Minister Mike Nesbitt confirmed he will impose the 2025/26 General Medical Services (GMS) contract, despite it being rejected in a ballot by @BMA_NI GPs.
🙌Dr McKenna says being a doctor in his community is the “honour” of his life, but warns the situation is deteriorating.
He acknowledges public frustrations around access and phone delays, and says he wants things to improve.
I really fear that if General Practice is allowed to crumble and collapse, the whole of the NHS will fail. Fixing the foundation before that happens is vital!
“I’ve spent 5 years in medical training and then 3 years in GP training. And I have struggled to find employment”
@DrCheskaBall – BMA GP Reg Committee co-Chair – shares why we need to #endGPunemployment now.
Well done @ursulaamason et al. Well articulated which explains the challenges and opportunities within General practice in Northern Ireland . Lets hope changes can occur.

I had a conversation today about the difference between "kindness" & "niceness" in leadership so I decided to post about it. The article & graphic explain why, as leaders, we should choose kindness over niceness. Kindness is about caring enough to push people toward greatness, even when it’s uncomfortable. It’s a harder path but better in the long run:

@ChloeERodger This happened me years ago from CST to reg jobs and all the exams done, was devastated too. I am a portfolio GP now and all I can say is I am really happy, feel free to reach out!
Writing for Pivotal Platform @ursulaamason of the @rcgp_ni argues that: "the current trajectory of relative defunding of general practice will only lead to reduced access, poorer outcomes and risks widespread destabilisation and collapse." https://t.co/iWb0HAQGv7
