The Model Minority Myth elevates the status of AAPI Individuals, diminishing their experiences with racism, and driving a wedge between the AAPI community and other communities of color.

It turns Asian Americans into a monolith of politeness and educational success, denying the diversity of the Asian American diaspora and coinciding with the perpetual foreigner stereotype to further prevent AAPI populations in being worthy of promotions or higher management positions in the workforce.

HB 1283 was signed into law in #Georgia! This law increases the storage for all rape kits to 10 years and impacts 3.1 million survivors in the state. A big thank you to Representative Panitch (@estherforgeorgia) and Representative Lupton (@karen4ga) for standing with survivors and helping this bill become law!

Yuri Kochiyama was an American rights activist, influenced by her family’s experience in the WW2 Japanese Internment Camps.

In the 1980s, she and her husband pushed for reparations and a formal government apology for Japanese-American internees through the Civil Liberties Act, which President Ronald Reagan signed into law in 1988. Her continued dedication to social causes inspired younger generations of activists, especially within the Asian-American community.

We celebrate Yuri’s work and continue to carry her mission for equal and just civil rights.

This #AAPIHeritageMonth, Rise aims to shed light on some important & harmful stereotypes in the AAPI community.

Yellow Fever isn't a compliment and it isn't the same as "having a type." This phenomenon, spanning decades, has contributed to the exoticization, objectification, fetishization, and dehumanization of the AAPI community - especially Asian women.

It is a practice that began gaining popularity during American military presence in East and Southeast Asia, and it still pervades elements of our society today. Yellow Fever feeds into a culture of abuse against Asian women, relying on and perpetuating dangerous power dynamics of submission and control, stripping women of their identity and reducing them to merely their background.

Asian women are not your fantasy or your fetish. They deserve to be viewed as humans with individual flaws, desires, triumphs, disappointments, and quirks. Let's support them today and everyday.

SF 2379 has been signed into law in #Iowa! This is our 7th law of the year and it provides the following:

✅ Privileged communication with a victim's counselor;
20 yr forensic evidence retention, or in the case of a minor victim, for the lifetime of the victim, and to be notified of this right;

✅ Be notified of the right not to be prevented from receiving a forensic medical exam;

✅ Right to be informed of the results of the forensic medical exam;

✅ Right to be informed of the status and location of the rape kit;

✅ Notification of evidence destruction at least 60 days prior to and upon request of the survivor, evidence will be kept longer

These rights impact at least 809K survivors in the state of Iowa!

LB1181 was signed into law in #Nebraska! This law provides survivors the right to be consulted regarding a plea agreement, which is part of the right to be updated on any and all dispositions of the survivor's case. HB4394 has passed the #Illinois House unanimously! The rights include the right to request that any interview be conducted in the presence of a law enforcement officer of a particular sex or gender, if one is reasonably available, the right to a support person and the right to be notified of these rights.

Next stop is the Senate!  If signed into law this bill will impact at least 3.4 million survivors in the state ✨🧡

The New Hampshire Dept of Justice estimates 1,000 survivors are turned away from medical exams every year. HB 1633 is a common-sense step to ensure every survivor knows their rights the moment they step into a hospital—not after a kit is already opened. Information is power. It’s time to give that power back to survivors.

We are looking for interns for the 2026 Rise Summer Internship Program!

Interns will get direct experience in writing bills, passing laws, negotiating United Nations resolutions, and building a social movement. Rise interns aid in Rise’s legislative campaigns around the country and world. Past intern classes have organized and attended rocket launches, conducted and prepared United States Congressional hearings, planned events at United Nations Headquarters and New York Fashion Week, and traveled abroad to coalition build for the United Nations portfolio.

SB 87 was signed into law by Gov Rhoden in #SouthDakota! This law clarifies that rape kits are no cost to the survivor and clarifies that a hospital or clinic providing a rape kit must inform a patient about access to a victim's advocate. This law impacts over 1.4 million survivors in South Dakota and is already in effect!
